Privacy policy

In short
Halal Berlin shows halal places in Berlin. There is no account, no registration and no server of ours that your data would be sent to. Whatever the app stores stays on your phone.
Data on the device
The place list, favourites and search history are stored in a database inside the app, on your device. Uninstalling the app deletes them.
Location
If you allow location access, it is used to show places near you and calculate distances. Location is processed on the device, is not sent to us and is not stored anywhere.
You may decline the permission or revoke it under Settings → Apps → Halal Berlin → Permissions. The app keeps working, just without sorting by proximity.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent).
Map and place data (Google)
The map is rendered with the Google Maps SDK for Android and place data comes from the Google Places API — services of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland.
With every such request Google receives the data technically required to deliver the content, including your device's IP address, and may transfer it to servers in the United States. We have no influence over that processing; it is governed by Google's privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest — showing places on a map is the app's core purpose).
OpenStreetMap
When Google returns no result, place data is fetched from OpenStreetMap via the Overpass service. Your device's IP address is visible to that server during the request.
Phone calls
If you tap a phone number in the place details, the app opens your dialler. The call goes through your phone and we do not record who you called.
What the app does not do
It uses no analytics, shows no advertising, sends no crash reports, has no sign-in and sends no push notifications.
Your rights
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. You may withdraw location consent at any time.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. For Berlin this is the Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit.
Children
The app is not intended for children under 16 and does not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
This text is updated when the app changes. The date of the last change appears at the top of the page.
